Text Box: DID YOU KNOW???
…that the initials SAL stand for
Sons of the American Legion.

Our local squadron has 177 members, 99 of which are local area residents. The SAL was formed by the American Legion in Portland Oregon in 1933. Nationally, SAL membership topped 300,000 in 2007.

We are proud to be members of the Legion family, which includes the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion.
Nationally our “3 part family” has 4.2 million members.

Text Box: DID YOU KNOW???
…That the requirements to become a member of SAL, Sons of the American Legion are as follows:

“All male descendants (including stepsons and adopted sons) of Veterans who died in service during W.W. I or II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama and the Persian Gulf Wars during the delimiting periods set fourth in Article IV, Section 1, of the National Constitution of the American Legion, or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the Sons of the American Legion.”

That is a mouthful….So in short…membership in SAL is open to all male descendents (sons, grandsons, great grandsons) of male or female members of the American Legion, a deceased member of the American Legion or a deceased Veteran who would be eligible for membership in the American Legion, if alive. Further, a Veteran who wants to honor his or her father or grandfather in another special way, may belong to both the American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion.
Text Box: DID YOU KNOW???
…what the purpose of SAL is?
Three words…To Honor Veterans...

Every Son of the American Legion knows what their father, mother, grandfather or grandmother as well as all Veterans have done and continue to do for them and all Americans, by serving our Country in peace time and in war.

So we, the local members of SAL, honor them by supporting our Post 66 in money generating and community activities designed to enhance the local Post’s financial stability and its positive image in the community. For example, each year’s proceeds from the SAL portion of the Flea Market are turned over to Post 66 for scholarships for seniors at Sahuarita H.S. as well as the Post Improvement Fund. In the 2007 Flea mkt. SAL generated $1,778.80 and in the last 6 years SAL has given American Legion Post 66 $7,981 from the Flea Market alone.

We hope to do even more in the future as we continue to grow.
